Credit Problem: Repair Costs?

I think the community unilaterally agrees that credit gain is too low, but I think that part of the problem is the ridiculously high cost of repair compared to income. I looked in the stats for one game where I lost my ship and it the fee was 349 credits; a third of my total income for that game. What the f? Considering the cost of upgrades and how quickly you unlock them, I may never be banking more than 3,000 credits at a given time unless I am comitted to saving for a new ship. It has been a long time since I played NF1, but I never recalled loosing %5-10 of my bank every time I lost the ship, and I certainly wasn't rolling in credits either.

In all team based games you end up in situations where you're going to lose regardless of how well you play as an individual, therefore it seems harsh to put such a high price on something that's inveitable. Not to mention, encouraging turtle-like play because people are afraid to lose their ships** might be realistic, but it certainly won't make the game fun.

** I'm not saying that this is happening now or that I have observed it, but it seems like a logical premise that could be true.
